About 6 months ago I joined Pinterest and have been addicted since day 1. A few months back I came across a pin for homemade laundry detergent. I followed the link to the blogger who made the homemade laundry detergent. (You can find her blog here).
About a month ago I bought all of the ingredients to make my own batch of laundry detergent. I spend $20.73 on the ingredients, and about $4 on a 2 gallon bucket at the hardware store to mix it all together and store in.
I mixed it all together about 2 weeks ago and have officially begun using the detergent on Thursday, February 23, 2012. I still had some liquid Gain detergent to use up. I did wash 2 loads of towels during the time I was still using the liquid Gain detergent. We are officially using the homemade laundry detergent now. So far, so good! The original blogger said it lasted her 9 months. So we'll see how long this lasts me.
Side Notes: I followed her exact recipe because this is the first time I tried this so I decided not to alter it at all. I thought a 2 gallon bucket would have been plenty big. I wish I had gotten the 5 gallon bucket. I certainly would be best. For the next batch I will definitely get a bigger bucket so I can snap the lid on the bucket and give it a really good shake.
